Jason S. Harshbarger is a lifelong advocate for West Virginia’s working families, energy workers, and rural communities. With decades of real-world experience in both public service and the private sector, Jason has built a reputation as a leader who understands how policy decisions affect everyday people, and who isn’t afraid to stand up and fight for them.
Jason previously served in the West Virginia House of Delegates, where he earned the trust of his colleagues and constituents through hard work, common sense, and conservative principles. During his time in the Legislature, he served as Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee and as an Assistant Majority Whip. In those roles, Jason worked on issues critical to West Virginia’s future, including job creation, responsible energy development, and protecting the state from unnecessary federal overreach.
Outside the Capitol, Jason brings more than 29 years of hands-on experience in the energy industry. He has worked alongside the men and women who produce the oil, natural gas, coal, and power that keep West Virginia running. From operations and safety to environmental compliance and infrastructure development, Jason understands the energy sector from the ground up, not from a talking point or a press release.
Jason believes strongly that West Virginia’s energy industries are under attack by out-of-state interests and federal regulators who do not understand Appalachia or the consequences of their policies. He knows that oil and natural gas aren’t abstract debates, they keep families warm in the winter, put food on the table, and keep communities alive. Jason has been, and will continue to be, a strong defender of the workers who power the state.
At his core, Jason’s public service is guided by a simple belief, government should work for the people who do the work. He is committed to protecting jobs, defending West Virginia’s way of life, and making sure rural and working-class voices are heard in Charleston.
Jason and his wife, Michelle, live on their family farm near Pullman, West Virginia, land that has been in their family since the mid-1800s. The Harshbargers have an adult daughter, Mackenzie, and remain deeply rooted in the community they are proud to call home.
